VeriFactu for tour guides: what it is, when it applies to you and how to comply free

Everything a freelance tour guide needs to know about VeriFactu, the Spanish Tax Agency's verifiable invoicing system, and how to comply at no cost with GuideMe.

VeriFactu is the verifiable invoicing system of the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT), regulated by RD 1007/2023. It requires every invoice to carry a QR code and a record with a hash that the AEAT can verify. It will become mandatory for self-employed workers in July 2027 and non-compliance can lead to fines of up to €50,000. With GuideMe, all your invoices already comply with VeriFactu, on the free plan too.

What is VeriFactu?

VeriFactu is the name of the system by which invoicing programs generate secure invoicing records, chained with a hash and with a QR code that lets anyone (and the AEAT) verify the invoice. Its goal is to prevent dual-use software and ensure that invoices cannot be altered after they are issued.

  • Invoicing record with a chained hash
  • QR code verifiable on the electronic portal of the AEAT
  • Regulated by RD 1007/2023
  • Applicable to invoicing software

When does it apply to freelance guides?

For self-employed workers and companies that issue invoices, the obligation to use VeriFactu systems takes effect in July 2027. From that date, your invoices will have to meet these requirements. Getting ahead now saves you last-minute changes and possible penalties.

  • Mandatory for the self-employed from July 2027
  • Penalties of up to €50,000 for non-compliance
  • Affects anyone who invoices for their services
  • Best to migrate before the deadline
